DP2515 — Standalone CAN Controller with SPI Interface

11/27/2025

The DP2515 is a fully standalone Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol controller that fully supports CAN 2.0B specification. It can transmit and receive standard/extended data frames and remote frames.

Two acceptance masks and six acceptance filters significantly reduce MCU overhead by filtering unwanted messages.

Communication with the host MCU is via industry-standard SPI.

Key Features

  • Full CAN 2.0B support, up to 1 Mbps

  • 0–8 byte data field, standard/extended/remote frames

  • 2 receive buffers with prioritization

  • 6 × 29-bit acceptance filters + 2 × 29-bit masks

  • Filtering on first two data bytes (standard frames)

  • 3 transmit buffers with prioritization and abort capability

  • High-speed SPI (10 MHz), supports modes 0,0 and 1,1

  • One-shot mode (single transmission attempt)

  • Clock-out pin with programmable prescaler

  • Start-of-Frame (SOF) output for monitoring and diagnostics

  • Configurable interrupt and “buffer full” pins

  • Individual RTS pins for immediate transmission or as GPI

  • Low-power CMOS:

    • 2.7–5.5 V supply

    • 5 mA typical active current

    • 1 µA typical standby (sleep mode)

  • Temperature range: –40°C to +85°C

Packages

  • SOP-18, TSSOP-20

Applications

  • Intelligent nodes in CAN bus systems
